Lasting Power of Attorney
If you become mentally incapacitated without a Lasting Power of Attorney (“LPA”), someone amongst your loved one would have to apply to court, to be your deputy to do take care of you and your property. The applicant would have to be approved by your parents (if alive) and your siblings as well as the members of your immediate family at great cost to themselves. A Lasting Power of Attorney (“LPA”) appointing someone of your choice to act on your behalf in respect of your health and your property should you become mentally incapacitated when you have the capacity to do so will save your loved ones considerable amount of money and anguish. In line with government policy we are able to prepare an LPA for you at short notice and at a very reasonable cost.
Wills, Trusts, Estate and Probate
We are able to draft a Will for you at short notice and at a very reasonable cost which also includes advice on any issue that might crop up in the light of your instructions and also the best way of preserving, or distributing your assets to your beneficiaries in the event of your death.
We also draft settlements and trust deeds for clients who wish to settle their assets in a particular way. We are also able to advice you on the tax/stamp duty implications of any such settlements/trust deeds.
In the event of the death of a sole owner or one who co-owns a property as a tenant-in-common with another, we are able to take out a Grant of Probate or Letter of Administration (whichever is applicable).
We are also able to reseal a Grant of Probate or Letter of Administration.
Our cost for applying for Grant of Probate (in case of a Will) and Grant of Letters of Administration (in case of intestacy i.e. where there is no Will) is also very reasonable. We are also aware that the Grant may become essential e.g. to complete the sale of a property. Hence, we are very prompt in applying for the same once we are instructed on the matter.
Although most trust/estate matters do not result in acrimony, some do especially those involving a lot of assets or money. In such circumstances, you need someone who is familiar with contested trust/probate matters. We have handled many contested probate and trust issues even at the level of Singapore’s apex court, the Court of Appeal.
